Introduction:

-Diigo is an online that tool connects groups of people with similar interests and allows them to search the internet for related links, fine tune those links to their particular area of interest, share the links within groups, and save them for future use. This is a search engine, encyclopedia, and file cabinet linked to others, all with your complementary post-it notes wrapped into one.

  • Advantages of the tool

-Some advantages of Diggo is that you can look-up information fast and easy, it is very efficient in this way because it saves time, and you can bookmark your information, add highlights to something that you find interesting, or just remind yourself of something that you need to research later. Its like using post-its on the internet, and you can share this information with a group. This is very effective because if you are working with a group and you can't all meet at the same time you can share this information with your group and each work different things and see what each group member is working on. You can answer questions that you each might have, and help the other person find information they may be asking about. Another great thing about Diigo is that you can use your I-phone to communicate, so if you are out somewhere and don't have access to a computer but need to organise information or just see what the latest buzz with your group is, you can access it from your I-phone. Another advantage is that teachers can go online and view what the students are working on, give them ideas, and make sure that they are staying on taks and on time with the project.

  • Disadvantages (limitations) of the tool
-One disadvantages of Diigo is that if a student is working in a group and they don't have access to a computer, than they would have no way to communicate with the rest of the group. Also, if you are not familiar with the website than you would have to take time out to learn your way around the site and also learn how to use all the tools in the site. Though I am sure this is an easy task for most students, there are some students who may have a learning disability that it would be more difficult for and this would be very frustrating to them. It could even be frustrating for someone who is just not very technology savey and does not know their way around a computer or the internet. Though the internet is a great tool for everything, and this site is a great way to communicate and work as a group and organise your information, for someone who is not "computer literate" it could be very frustrating.

Diigo in the Classroom:

- This is a great tool for educators because it allows them to share reliable internet resources with their classes. By creating a group for your class, teachers can provide links to website they have looked at, added their comments to, and shared with the class for their use on what they may be learning at that point in time. The great part about Diigo is that it centrally locates all class material for the educator online, is safe for students to use and navigate, and combines it all to be easily accessed anywhere with an internet connection.
